2012 MotoGP Le Mans to Begin

The fourth round of the 2012 MotoGP season is set to begin at Le Mans, the historic track in northern France that is the setting of all of our best bike dreams.

All of the usual suspects are scheduled to be racing the track that in aerial view looks like a police outline of a Pokeman bunny. There will be Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner, who has recently announced he will retire at seasons’ end, and Dani Pedrosa, along with Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, the 2010 champion, Cal Crutchlow and Ben Spies.

Though Lorenzo surely has the right stuff to end the race and the season on top once again, the fact that he has got to get past both Pedrosa and Stoner makes it unlikely. No matter the sport, going one against two is tough.

Whatever the results, all but the cruelest among us are hoping for good weather so that the nightmare of the 2009 race that really was just made up of one sloppy mistake after another can be avoided. Also, fans need to appreciate that if the Stone man is not just blowing smoke and does indeed retire this year, this will be the final Le Mans race between two of the greatest named MotoGP racers of all time: Crutchlow and Stoner.
