The only breaks World Superbike racer John Hopkins seems to be getting are literal. Just about a month after having the top of one of his fingers amputated to help him recover from a broken hand, Hopkins broke the same hand again in a high-speed crash at the Phillip Island World Superbike test.
This second break just about guarantees that the Anglo-American rider will not participate in the World Superbike’s opening round. The accident came as the determined Hopper was making his way back to the MotoGP Championship after the lengthy and difficult recuperation brought about by the first breaking of his hand. Following this most recent setback, Hopkins flew back to the U.S. to have his hand examined and to begin treatment.
Talking about the break, Hopkins said, “Well I’m absolutely devastated to announce that after a high speed crash I’ve broke a bone in my right hand! Severity is yet to be determined.”
